Senior SCADA Engineer
Our client is expanding rapidly in the U.S. renewables market, they are building a robust portfolio of solar, wind, and battery storage projects.
They are seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to join their team and support the growth of their renewable energy assets. This individual will play a key role in the development, integration, and ongoing support of SCADA systems to ensure reliable and secure operations across the asset portfolio.
Position Summary:
The Senior SCADA Engineer will lead the design, configuration, and management of SCADA systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects. This includes engineering oversight, system integration, and technical support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle – from design through commissioning and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, configure, and maintain SCADA systems for solar, wind, and energy storage projects.
- Provide hands-on SCADA support during project construction and commissioning.
- Establish technical specifications, scopes of work, and design guidelines for control systems and communications infrastructure; ensure alignment with company and stakeholder requirements.
- Review and validate technical documents including system studies, performance evaluations, schematics, and specifications related to SCADA and remote monitoring systems.
- Coordinate with contractors and EPCs to ensure SCADA system design, including RTU configurations and point lists, meets both internal and third-party standards.
- Act as a technical resource for internal teams, including Asset Management, OT, Remote Operations, Construction, and Grid Interconnection teams.
- Support root cause analysis and performance reviews for operating assets.
- Collaborate with operations personnel to ensure EMS/SCADA systems capture all necessary real-time and historical data.
- Enforce cybersecurity and operational technology compliance across all projects.
- Perform system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance to ensure system reliability.
- Stay current on SCADA trends, renewable energy technologies, and industry best practices.
- Participate in cross-functional project meetings and ensure SCADA deliverables align with overall project timelines.
- Recommend alternative technical solutions as needed to meet business or operational goals.
- Adhere to and help enforce company safety, quality, and environmental protocols.
Qualifications:
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in SCADA, control systems, or operational technology within the renewable energy sector.
- At least 2 years of experience with grid-related energy management systems or SCADA platforms for electric system operations preferred.
- Hands-on expertise with platforms such as Wonderware, Ignition, SEL, or similar SCADA/OT tools.
- Familiarity with utility-scale renewable technologies, including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.
- Solid understanding of industrial cybersecurity practices as they apply to control systems.
- Knowledge of substation protection and electrical infrastructure is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with RTUs, PLCs, DAQ, and IEDs in a power systems context.
- Proficiency in computer-based tools and software used in engineering and automation.
